Welcome to GSIS
Gyeonggi Suwon International School (GSIS) opened its doors to students for the first time on September 18, 2006. The school was founded as a partnership between Gyeonggi Provincial Government, Suwon City, and Dr. Thomas J. Penland, Headmaster of Taejon Christian International School, acting on behalf of and with the expressed approval of the TCIS Board of Trustees. The purpose of the school is to provide a high quality international education for foreign children in Korea that will serve to further attract foreign investment to Korea.
GSIS projects a capacity enrollment of over six hundred (600) students in grades Pre-K-12. The school is accredited with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, EARCOS (East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools), KORCOS (Korea Regional Conference of Overseas Schools), KAIAC (Korea–American Interscholastic Activities Conference), Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), and last year we received accreditation to offer the IB Diploma Program(DP). The school is pursuing membership with the College Board (PSAT, SAT, AP programs), and is a candidate school with the International Baccalaureate Organization in the Primary Years Program (PYP) and Middle Years Program (MYP).
A student boarding program is provided for students in grades 6-12 needing boarding accommodations. The boarding division is at candidate status with the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). A comprehensive seven-day boarding program is available for students living in Korea as well as for
Our mission will always be to provide a high quality international academic program to international students guided by a Christian philosophy of education that embraces and seeks a diverse student population. An open Christian environment will be established on the campus, and children of all faiths will be welcomed as well as children from homes that do not practice religion. The school will dedicate itself to educating the whole person: academically, spiritually, socially, emotionally, and physically. The staff will challenge all students to strive for their highest potential as God has gifted them and to always be motivated to share that giftedness with the rest of humanity. The school will actively seek ways for students and teachers to give back to the Suwon community that is hosting them as foreign guests.
GSIS academic standards will be high to ensure that each student has as many open doors as possible to pursue upon completion of his/her studies. In addition, GSIS will create a nurturing and caring Christian environment where students, teachers, and parents work as a close knit community. Our student to teacher ratio will be low thus allowing for more student-teacher interaction and assistance. The learning community will collaborate to offer the highest quality international education possible and will seek to make it cost competitive. The desire is to work with all international families to make the education of their child affordable.

GSIS is located on ten and one-half acres of garden grounds surrounded by green belt property in the exciting and developing city of Suwon. The main academic building greets visitors arriving to the campus and includes high school, middle school, and elementary divisions. The academic building includes an information technology center (info-tech and library/media/computer center) that will be the core for all educational programs. The info-tech center is the conduit to worldwide research for students and faculty members as well as the hub for a wireless computer network throughout the campus. The info-tech center also allows students to connect to research databases housed both on the school server and at web-based sites. The library circulation resources are computerized to enable convenient and efficient searches by students and faculty members.
"World class" middle school and high school science labs and classrooms support the inquiry-based curriculum and enable engaging, hands-on instruction. Also in the academic building, students have easy access to a fully equipped cafeteria where hot nutritional meals are served in a clean and comfortable environment. A school clinic and health services office provide limited health services to faculty and students via the full-time, registered nurse. The academic facility contains spacious classrooms, teacher work areas, meeting and function rooms, hallways, counseling services suites, and administrative offices.
Adjacent to the academic building is a performing arts center with fine arts classrooms and laboratories. This facility includes a five-hundred seat performing arts auditorium, choral and instrumental classrooms, music practice rooms, drama rooms, and visual arts laboratories.
A recreational and fitness educational center inclusive of a regulation-sized soccer pitch, two full sized gymnasiums, tennis courts, a regulation-sized swimming pool, and other supporting facilities for physical fitness development sits at rear of the campus. Community based programs will be designed to maximize the use of this recreational center. A safe and secure playground area to provide stimulating children's fitness programs is located adjacent to the academic building near the elementary division area.
All buildings are energy efficient, modern, attractive, sensitive to the environment, and handicapped accessible with climate controlled technology. The entire campus is secured with various human and electronic surveillance strategies and equipment.
Student residence housing is located near the campus. Dorms provide an 8:1 student to adult ratio. Recreational and entertainment facilities are included along with study areas. Full meal plans for boarding students is available along with 24-hour health care services, if needed.
The school has contracted a fleet of modern buses to provide transportation for students through strategic areas of Suwon and the surrounding Gyeonggi province. Late buses will be available for students who participate in after-school activities.
